Tree Care Tips

Tip #1

It is a good idea to examine your trees for potentially hazardous situations. A few minutes checking your trees could prevent disaster during heavy rainstorms or in the event of winter ice storms.

Tip #2
Young or newly planted trees need time to adjust to the wind environment. They should be staked and tied loosely to allow the stem to move and bend with the wind. Gradually loosen and eventually release the ties over time.

Tips #3

Another way to minimize damage in trees is to keep them as healthy as possible with timely watering and proper fertilization. Treat any pest cavity problems quickly to lessen potential damage. Cavities in trees will lead to further internal damage without timely attention. If more than 30% of the bark circumference is affected, structural integrity of the main stem is lost.

Tips #4

Although there are no guarantees that a tree will not suffer from storm damage, observation and prevention are the two most important tools a homeowner has to minimize potential damage.
